hey! this is another special post, as this is our second resident dj, dj Silas i hope everyone will enjoy this mix as i did!
‘Silas’ AKA Steve Lloyd has been involved in the UK house scene since the earlier nineties playing some of the biggest and best venues in the UK. His DJ breakthrough came at ‘Inner space’ @ Turnmills (London). Playing alongside Lawrence Nelson (Gat Décor), Smoking Jo and Fat Tony the Friday nighters were outrageous and groundbreaking. After that came centre stage for Steve at some of the biggest and glamest parties London had ever seen ‘Meridian’, with venues ranging from Linford Film Studios to the Ministry of Sound (MOS). Steve’s DJ career was also progressing with a residency at ‘Best of British’ on Friday’s nights at MOS (later at Club UK) with other DJ’s including Jim Masters, Mark Moore (S-express), John Digweed and Paul Oakenfold (further residencies to come at MOS were ‘Progressive People’ and ‘Open all Hours’). There were also numerous other guest spots around the UK from the Tunnel Club in Glasgow, the Gardening Club in London to the massive one off ‘Lost it Lil’ parties at ‘Linford and Bagley’s Film Studio’s’. Steve’s own club promotion nights included ‘Rich & Shameless’, ‘UK By The Sea’, ‘Little Devil’s Do’ (Cinecitta Discoteka, Club UK and Gass Club) and ‘Bamboozle’ at the MOS and Café de Paris (London).
Steve’s production career started early on when he formed the Balouga Boys. Their first release was ‘Iceni’ on Cowboy Records. More releases followed with Balouga Boys remixes including Sega’s ‘Sonic the hedgehog’ and Berri’s ‘Sunshine after the rain’. There were also collaborations with progressive house stars ‘Acorn Arts’. In 1994 Balouga Boys signed with Stress Records, their first release was ‘Hip Hop’. Further releases included ‘Heavy Metal’ and the Blue Amazon collaboration ‘Everlasting Gobstopper’, as well as remixes of tracks including Eleanor Mills ‘Mr Right’. After Balouga Boy’s Steve formed the band Dudearella. Signed to MCA / Universal Records Dudearella were responsible for the UK mixes of several US top ten tracks including EYC’s ‘Ooh-ah-aa (I Feel It)’, Soul for Real’s ‘Every little thing I do’ and Meechie’s ‘You bring me joy’. There were also mixes of Grace’s ‘If I could fly’ and D’Bora’s ‘Good love, real love’.
After several years with the pressure of a major record label Steve became disillusioned and decided that he needed to walk away from the dance music scene.
However after missing his passion for mixing, Steve has now returned, fully refreshed and playing under the name of ‘Silas’. His own style of ‘progressive trance’ is uplifting, driving and melodic. Never predictable Steve’s enthusiasm for music is as strong as ever. Get ready for his eclectic mixture of trance, tech and progressive house.
